Provide a short description of the event and its activities.

OUR WORLD TO INHERIT" - XV JUBILEE - CRISIS MANAGEMENT - TWINNING MEETING (VILAGOROK)

Dates of the 5-day meeting: 4 - 8 October 2023.

The immediate outcome - in line with our objectives - will be a critique of the 5 objectives of the Next Generation EU Plan - measures taken to mitigate the crisis in the light of the crisis situation that has occurred:

- "Smarter Europe", aimed at economic growth and modernisation of enterprises

- energy efficiency, use of renewable energies, adaptation to climate change, transition to a circular economy - a greener, low-carbon Europe"

- protecting the environment and ensuring transport safety by developing sustainable trans-European and urban mobility - "A better connected Europe"

- a "More Social Europe", promoting the inclusion of disadvantaged regions

- a "Europe closer to the citizen" through integrated social, economic, cultural and environmental development

Our debates on the future of Europe have sought to answer the question: have the measures eased or deepened the crisis?

Getting as wide a range of opinions from across Europe as possible has led to direct involvement in shaping Europe's future. Representatives from Eastern and Western Europe, from the founding and pre-accession countries, came together to make common proposals and express their views.

The meeting was organised jointly by the municipalities of 10 municipalities in 8 countries, reaching 10 000 citizens who were to be reached indirectly. The diversity of the meeting was enriched by the involvement of civil society organisations and citizens' initiatives (NGOs), which are a good way to further broaden our range of partners.

Number of participating countries: 8 (6 countries supported: RO, SK, GR, PT, ES, IT; 2 countries not supported: SRB, HU).

Number of direct individual participants (= total number of participants in the event): 600

Number of invited/international participants ('invited participants': travelling delegations from eligible partner countries other than the country hosting the twinning): 150.

Target groups: 0-29 - 350 people, 30-65 - 200 people, 65+ - 50 people (estimated)

After years of a worsening crisis, our meeting was a successful exchange of views on the progress made and initiatives planned in each policy area. We also learned from the testimonies of the citizens who participated and engaged through social media how each Member State is making the vision they have shared a reality.

Agenda of the event:

T1.1 Arrival, Welcome, Day of Tolerance and Mutual Understanding

On 04/10/2023, the opening day of the TEST TALK - Tolerance and Mutual Understanding was the theme: 150 European citizens from our twin towns - from 6 countries - with the support of the CERV programme - attended, 50% of the delegation leaders, invited experts and decision-makers were young people. On the opening day, starting from the controversial allocation of EU resources, we presented good and bad examples and came to our proposals for the implementation of the objectives of a "Europe that is smarter and closer to its citizens", including criticism. We criticised the measures taken to alleviate the economic crisis for known reasons.

T1.2 "An economy for the people" - OPEN VITAPHORUM - REVOLUTION

05/10/2023 - i "The economy for the people" - EXCURSION TOUR TOPIC: We organised an excursion to showcase European efforts to develop SMEs and to examine the impact of EU policies on economic actors. The theme of the public debate was our social market economy, which means that people and businesses can only thrive if the economy works in their interests. We also debated how to deepen economic and monetary union and how to encourage reforms and investment to help member states grow. Country-specific economic measures: have they eased or deepened the crisis?

T1.3 "A new impetus for European democracy" - Youth Parliament for Twinning

06/10/2023 - on "A new impetus for democracy in Europe" - Youth Parliament of the Twinning-Theme: "A new impetus for democracy". A new tool in the hands of young people active in the digital world: citizens can express their views on the future of Europe in an online conference that will run for two years from 2020. We discussed the effectiveness of the two-year conference on the future of Europe and the experiences of participants. Building the future in the face of the crisis! At the "Youth Parliament in a Sister City", with real parliamentarians, invited experts and local decision-makers, we discussed the importance of democratic participation and volunteering opportunities for young people at European level, as well as humanitarian aid

T1.4 "Defending our European way of life" - Exchange of ideas and networking with Greek and Portuguese NGOs and municipalities

07/10/2023 - i "Defending our European way of life" - Exchange of ideas and networking with Greek and Portuguese NGOs and municipalities

On this day, we discussed the possibilities of active involvement of young people. A new tool in the hands of young people active in the digital world: citizens can express their views in an online conference on the future of Europe, running for two years from 2020. We discussed the effectiveness of the two-year conference on the future of Europe and the experiences of its participants. The obstacles to building the future in the face of the crisis! We discussed democratic participation and the opportunities for volunteering at European level, which is so important for young people, as well as humanitarian aid in the "Youth Parliament for Twinning" - with real parliamentarians, invited experts and local decision-makers.

T1.5 "OUR EUROPEAN VALUES - OUR UNION" - Closing of the programme

08/10/2023 - i The last, final, evaluation day of the programme was a report on the extended knowledge. The most far-reaching theme, "a greener, low-carbon Europe", was addressed. The key message from the participants for all Europeans was that with COVID and the threat of war gone, we need to think again about long-term hazards. The climate crisis, climate change and environmental degradation are existential threats for all of us. We can only tackle these challenges together. This is one of the reasons why active participation in EU policy-making has become particularly important.PROGRAM
